Sara Mouritzen - a young girl drummer - is living a life full of beats, sweat and tears, chasing her dream of getting accepted at the Royal Academy of Music.

In the film DRUMMER we follow Sara on her journey to find her own identity - as a person and as a musician - and we watch her struggle to make it in a male-dominated world.

The film is a relevant input in the present debate on the gender balance in the rhythmical music world and gives us a unique insight into the musical underground milieu in Aarhus as we join Sara in sweaty rehearsal rooms and bedroom blues, watching her – apparently – hopeless fight to earn some respect.

The film is directed by documentary director Josefine Exner, who studies at The National Film School of Denmark, and it premiered at CPH:DOX 2018.
